A chambon, is a strap that runs forward from the bottom of the girth or surcingle/leather loop , which splits in two, in a fork formation. The forks continue to a run on either side of the bridle, at the base of the leather crown piece, running through the crown piece rings, following the cheek pieces to the bit. They may attach to the bit or pass through the bit rings and attach to themselves below the horse's neck. *See imagine below for 2 styles of attachment.

The chambon prevents horses from raising their head beyond a fixed point. Raising the head causes the length of the chambon along the cheekpieces to shorten and thus puts reciprocal pressure on the horse's mouth and the poll . The chambon is a lungeing aid, and will correct high head carriage, by helping them to release the tension in the neck and build up topline.
